Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is a public sector corporation providing bus service under the Ministry of Transport of the State government of Andhra Pradesh (a South Indian state). APSRTC has received many awards for its outstanding performance. Guinness Book of World Records states it to be the largest bus fleet in the world (Oct 1999; 18397 buses) with currently operating at 23000 buses (as on 21 Nov 2010.). Other significant awards received by APSRTC are “Road Safety Award” by Chartered Institute of Transport based in United Kingdom and “Production and Fuel Efficiency Award” from Government of India for many consecutive years.
APSRTC Online booking service is a step for efficient management of people applying for tickets on ticket windows. This service has shed load from the physical counters to online service which has made it handle a traffic equivalent to that on Indian Railways on a daily basis (approx. 14 million passengers per day.). However, APSRTC online booking is totally a free service provided to the passengers. It does not charge anything extra from the customers i.e. the buyer pays the same amount on ticket window and on APSRTC online booking. Tickets can be bought using credit card or debit card but only three tickets can be booked using a single credit card or debit card in a day, with a limit to six passengers on single ticket. There are different types of services provided by APSRTC. Most of the buses provide newspaper free of cost in the morning to the commuters and have FM radio installed which is a popular entertainment for the passengers. APSRTC provide free passes to children below 12 (to and fro) from their school to home and can be issued by depot managers. Youth commuting for government job interviews are also provided free passes.
